Jan 31, 2023     Drilled holes for rt wing fuel lines in leading edge ribs - (1.5 hours)       Category: Wings
Drilled holes for rt wing fuel lines in leading edge ribs.
Screwed up the first one (rib 3) though. Gonna have to order a replacement from Zenith. It was measured correctly but I was using my stepdrill bit on the drill press. Therefore i used a backing block of wood (that i've used before) but it pushed against the side of the bit and moved the hole, therefore in order to get it in the correct location for the return line on the fuel tank, I had to oblong the hole. So now it's a large oblong hole. Too large for my liking. So I'll order another and do it correctly.
I went ahead and drilled the holes for ribs 1 and 2 just fine (main line, return line, and wire feed). One thing that I found interesting that I never noticed before, that the tooling hole (only in rib 1) was at 30mm from the original edge vs 40mm, so it's actually only 20 from the new edge. This is only for the sender wires so I believe it'll be fine. You can see the slight difference in the pic.
I've deburred the hole, scotchbrited it, cleaned it with acetone, and aplied cortec.
